“Senegal Is Africa’s Closest Point to America”

Dr. İhsan ŞAHİN, Chairman of the DEİK Türkiye–Senegal Business Council, stated that the strong friendship between the two countries, official visits, and the efforts of the Business Council have had a positive impact on bilateral trade relations.

Pointing out that Senegal is geographically one of Africa’s closest points to the Americas, Şahin said that Senegal is an attractive country for investment due to its duty-free trade agreement with the United States, strong commercial relations with the countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), established democratic institutions, and developed legal system.

Şahin also highlighted the major investments made by Turkish companies in Senegal, including airport operations, metro projects, convention centers, flour mills, feed factories, and beverage production facilities.

He stated that the existing trade volume between Türkiye and Senegal, currently valued at approximately $410 million, should be increased to at least twice its current level within a few years.
