Sıla Group Chairman of the Board Dr. İhsan Şahin stated that the group had begun preparations for new hospitals to be developed in Iran under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Şahin explained that the Iranian Ministry of Health was planning to launch new hospital projects and said that Sıla Group’s target for these new investments was at least 2,000 beds and an investment volume of $1 billion.
Şahin, who also served as Chairman of the Turkish-Senegal Business Council of the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK), evaluated Sıla Group’s activities in Iran following the lifting of international sanctions.
He stated that in June, the Iranian Ministry of Health had selected contractors for 13 major hospitals to be developed under the PPP model. Four South Korean companies, including Samsung and Daewoo, undertook six hospital projects, while Italian companies Herrison and CMC were awarded four projects. Sıla Group from Türkiye was selected to undertake two projects.
Sıla Group signed memoranda of understanding with the Iranian Ministry of Health for the development and delivery of a 1,000-bed university hospital in Tehran, the capital city, and a 750-bed university hospital in Kerman. Following these agreements, the group decided to expand its investment targets in the region.
Şahin stated that the Iranian Ministry of Health planned to launch new projects for the construction of fully equipped teaching and research hospitals.
“We have begun preparations for new hospitals to be developed in Iran through public-private partnerships. For these new projects, Sıla Group has set a target of at least 2,000 beds and $1 billion.”
He emphasized that the group’s international experience, particularly its experience in Iran, would provide a significant advantage in future PPP tenders.
Şahin also stated that Sıla Group was well known and established in Iran and that the country had the potential to become an important healthcare hub following the lifting of sanctions.
“We will build major healthcare facilities and hospitals in Iran in the future.”
Şahin emphasized that Iran was an important neighboring country for Türkiye and that Sıla Group was developing projects in line with the country’s healthcare needs.
He stated that the group had set its target for business volume in Iran at at least $2 billion.
According to Şahin, stronger cooperation between the governments of Türkiye and Iran could significantly increase bilateral trade.
“If we can create the necessary synergy, Türkiye and Iran could achieve a bilateral trade volume of at least $20 billion in the healthcare sector alone. What matters is that our government supports us in these projects and provides Turkish businesspeople with support for financial solutions.”
Sıla Group was established through the merger of seven companies operating in the healthcare sector. The group has constructed numerous public, university, and private hospitals and healthcare centers in Türkiye and abroad, with 25 completed projects.
The group was also undertaking the construction of 15 physical therapy and psychiatric hospitals, with a combined capacity of approximately 2,400 beds, in various provinces.
Operating in the healthcare sector across 11 countries, Sıla Group provides construction, operation, and consultancy services and aims to further expand its international network.
Türkiye and Iran recorded a foreign trade volume approaching $22 billion in 2012, which declined to approximately $10 billion by the end of 2015.
Following the Türkiye–Iran High-Level Cooperation Council meeting chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on April 16, the joint declaration emphasized the objective of increasing bilateral trade to $30 billion in the medium term.
